My review of the Web Field Trip

WikiSpaces is most definitely a convenient tool for students to use. While my primary field wouldn’t necessarily benefit from such a program, the Junior division would definitely see the value in the site. It organizes group work effectively, especially for students who have difficulty finding time to work with other students due to extra-curricular activities. It also has them involved in a media they are familiar with; the internet. Their knowledge of this world wide web and their appreciation of it cannot be ignored and Wikispaces finds a fun way to get homework completed while working with others.

Podcasts are a great way for students to get more involved in their classroom. The first thing that came to mind when I read podcasts and considered its value in the classroom are monthly newsletters. If children come up with “updates” to give parents on what is going on in the classroom, what has been learnt, what they will be learning and also displaying, on camera, physical works such as art or music, not only do the parents feel as though they are a part of the classroom and a part of student learning, but students feel as though they have a bigger role to play within the classroom and will undoubtedly be excited to “report” on camera for parents!
